The legend of opera music, one of the three great tenors of the world, Jose Carreras, will give the only concert in Kyiv as part of his last world tour.
“A voice filled with mature sound, pulsating warmth and beauty bordering on bitter sadness,” this is how the New York Times described the voice of one of the best tenors in the world, José Carreras. In December 2016, Jose Carreras will turn 70 years old, immediately after the anniversary, the singer will give the only concert at the National Palace of Arts "Ukraine", where, accompanied by a symphony orchestra, he will perform the most famous excerpts from operas, oratorios, classical and popular musical works. Maestro David Gimenez, with whom Jose Carreras has been touring in recent years, will take the conductor's podium.
Born in 1946 in Barcelona, he fell in love with singing as a child after seeing Mario Lanza in The Great Caruso. José's first public appearance was on Spanish public radio when he was only 8 years old. At the age of 11, Carreras made his debut as a narrator in the male soprano "El retablo de Maese Pedro" at the Gran Theater in the Liceu. José Carreras studied singing and piano at the Barcelona Conservatory. In 1970 he made his debut on the opera stage of his native city. The ascent of the maestro to the musical Olympus was swift and, by the age of 28, Jose Carreras already had 24 leading roles in his career, performed in the world's leading opera productions. Throughout his life, José worked with renowned soloists and conductors. The tenor's musical discography has over 150 recordings, sold over 50 million copies. He sings on the leading stages of the world. With great success, he performed the roles of Calaf on the stage of the Vienna Opera (1983), José at the Arena di Verona festival (1984), the title role in Giordano's Andre Chenier (1986, ibid.), Canio at La Scala (1987).
In 1987, the singer fell seriously ill, he was diagnosed with acute leukemia. It took Jose more than a year to fight the insidious disease, and he was able to prevail. After being on the verge of life and death, the maestro managed to return to the opera world completely different.
His return to the world opera stage was a real triumph and it began with a concert of the legendary Three Tenors project (together with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo) at the opening of the World Cup in Rome in 1990. It was this performance that expanded the scope of the opera, which until then was considered a hostage of academic halls. The performers themselves became true legends of their time. The project constantly toured the world and lasted until 2003.
The singer's repertoire includes more than 60 operas, including Andrea Chenier, La bohème, Tosca, Werther, Don Carlos, Carmen, The Force of Destiny, Pagliazza, Elixir of Love, Masquerade Ball and many others. In total, he has more than 600 vocal parts from the Baroque era to modern music. Simultaneously with his work in the opera, José continues to give recitals at the most famous concert venues in the world.
