For long periods of history, the charming and cozy town of Oman Nizwa has been the spiritual center of the Sultanate of Oman. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman, previously it was a center of trade, religion, education, and art, and even the capital of Oman in the VI century is on the way from the south of Oman to Muscat. Since 1970, Nizwa has become a modern city, a two-lane highway to the capital was built and broadband lines were laid, a modern clinic was erected. The city has become the educational center of the country. It operates the Technical College, the College of Applied Sciences, a private university and the Academy of Training of the Royal Omani Police.
Nizwa is a huge palm oasis, where the city stretches for eight kilometers along two valleys. The waterfalls of Tanuf and the magnificent fort of Nizwa turned this place into a real fairy tale. The Al-Jabel and Al-Misfat mountains are among the highest in the Sultanate of Oman, and the Al-Jabel Al-Akhdar mountain range in the middle of Nizwa is somewhat reminiscent of lunar landscapes. High in the mountains, surrounded by greenery, you can plunge into the peaceful atmosphere of refreshing air currents and breathtaking natural architecture.
On the slopes of the mountains a few kilometers west of Nizwa is the legendary ancient city of Bahla surrounded by palm groves and a 12-kilometer wall protecting it. Bahly Fort, which is under the protection of UNESCO, the oldest in the country, some of its parts were erected in pre-Islamic times. Bahla is known for its pottery production and has always been considered the habitat of sorceresses sorcerers. In the center of the old market grows a large shady tree, chained to the ground. According to the belief, genies live on it, and so that they do not carry the tree with them, the locals chained it to the ground. Some Bahla families still practice magic, witchcraft, and conspiracy. That Bahla is considered the home of the magic carpet.
